Zenith Model 6-S-27, 1936.
This is the 6-tube AC version as the
“S” notation suggests. It was also available as model
6-V-27, a 6 volt farm set with a synchronous vibrator. This was the first year of the big black dial
or Magnavision as Zenith called it--on affordable sets (the
1000Z Stratosphere did debut in 1935 model line-up with a
massive black dial, but it was priced at $750.00).
One of my favorite tombstone radios with a recessed concave
speaker grille, made from Australian Laurelwood and butt
walnut, the 6-S-27 tunes 5 wave bands on 3 simplified dial
ranges. Original list price: $59.95. |
