Zenith
Model 990, 1935. This
is one of the eight new 900 series sets that Zenith bought
out midway through the 1935 model year. The sets were
first introduced in the January 1935 issue of Radio
Retailing magazine. This striking model features 12 tubes, a substantial stand-up woofer and
soundboard mounted tweeter, split-second tuning and a
beautiful cabinet with fluted pillars. At $250.00, this was
an expensive radio in 1935 and is a rare find today.
The only console better than the Zenith 990 was the
top-of-the 25-tube Zenith Stratosphere which sold for
$750.00 (be sure to check out the Stratospheres on this
website). |
