Motorola Model 6Y, 1938. 6 Tubes,
Superheterodyne. The Galvin Manufacturing company was
incorporated in Chicago on September 25, 1928 and was
initially located at 847 West Harrison Street. In
1930, Paul V. Galvin, President of Galvin Manufacturing
trademarked the name Motorola as the trade name of its
products. The name Motorola suggested a fusion of
"motion and sound," and was quite appropriate since
they introduced the first truly affordable car radio in
1930. In 1937 Motorola introduced a completely new
line-up of home radios which they hoped would increase their
market share.
